Qaqortukulooq

Your adventure begins with a picturesque boat ride through the serene fjords of “Arpatsivik”. Upon arrival at Hvalsey, you will explore the best-preserved Norse church ruins in Greenland. This site, set against the backdrop of Hvalseyfjördur, tells the story of Norse settlers during the Middle Ages. The hauntingly beautiful ruins echo tales of Norse life and invite contemplation of the mysteries surrounding their sudden disappearance after a 500-year presence. As you wander through the remnants of the church, reflect on the questions of why this once-thriving community vanished and ponder the significance of the last written records from this era.

Upernaviarsuk

After immersing yourself in the rich history of the Norse civilization, continue your journey to the Upernaviarsuk Agricultural Station. This leading agricultural research station in Greenland showcases innovative techniques used to grow crops in the challenging Arctic climate. Here, you will learn about the sustainable practices that support local communities and see firsthand the variety of vegetables and plants that flourish in Greenland’s unique environment.

Upernaviarsuk is more than just an agricultural station; it is a testament to the resilience and ingenuity of Greenlandic farmers. Discover how traditional knowledge and modern science combine to promote sustainable farming practices. Gain insights into Greenlandic agricultural practices, and witness the efforts to maintain and develop local food production.
