Experience a first hand interaction with the Greenlandic people!
The tour provides a personal exchange with a Greenlandic host. The host(s) will welcome you to a typical traditional Kaffemik, or also known as “Kaffillerneq”, directly translated to “serving coffee”.
We have kaffemiks when we celebrate an event. It could be a birthday, graduation, the first day of school, or the baby’s first steps. You invite your family, friends, co-workers, your local grocer, and anyone you may meet on the street, so we can easily have 100 guests in a single day. Coffee, tea, cake are served, and stories are shared.
You will start by meeting your guide outside the Greenland Sagalands store. Afterwards, you will be guided to the house, where the host will give you a warm welcome to their home. There is a 15 – 30 minute walk to the home of the host. The host will tell you about their life, culture and the pictures on the walls. The Greenlandic national clothing will be explained and showed as well. It is an amazing opportunity to get up-close to the national clothing, and hear about how it is sewn and what materials were used.
For anyone interested in the culture of the Indigenous Inuit’s, this is the tour to participate in. Each host is unique. Every family has their own ways of celebrating an event, and every story is different. The hosts are looking forward to welcoming you to their home!
Remember to take off your shoes at the entrance!
Included in the tour is a guide, that will translate all that is said by the host.
